In a blue domed planetarium, visitors are now watching stars, planets and constellations for half an hour in broad daylight. The visitors have also a unique opportunity to watch the shape of the sun during summer and winter, and moon’s orbiting of the sun.
The planetarium was arranged in a round-shaped room with a capacity to accommodate more than 15 visitors at a time. KACST readied the planetarium as part of the 6th Science and Technology Week that began Saturday. KACST President Muhammad Al-Suwaiyel opened the seven-day event. The carnival’s 32 pavilions are designed in such a way to fascinate visitors, especially young people who are interested in science and technology.
Almost all the scientific sectors and research centers at KACST are represented and displaying their projects and products at the pavilions. These included centers and institutes in the fields of environment, energy, petrochemicals, petroleum and gas, computer science, robotic inventions, smart systems, nanotechnology, electronics, communications, space and aviation, satellite technology, physics, mathematics, and astronomy.
There are several scientific institutes and centers as well as service departments tasked with granting patents and providing information and support to scientific research who are also taking part in the event.
The carnival underscored the Kingdom’s national policy on science and technology, which aims to spread awareness about the importance of science and technology among members of the society.
Famous Saudi actor Yusuf Al-Jarah said he is staging a drama and a science documentary film, besides conducting competitions aimed at spreading the message of science among the people, especially the younger generation.
The week’s activities also feature direct interaction involving citizens and visitors from various schools and universities through open interaction with researchers and specialists in a number of scientific fields.
