Myanmar massacre
The visit of the Turkish delegation to the affected areas of Myanmar consisting of Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu along with Emine Erdogan, wife of the Turkish premier, to console the surviving Muslims within the Rakhine area on Friday has brought a wave of excitement among the emotional Pakistani Muslims.
The Muslims here have expressed contentment over the visit of Turkish officials to Burma and criticized the Pakistani stance over the Burma killings stating, “The people of Turkey have come forward to aid the innocent Muslims of Burma who are facing worst conditions in their own country. Wife of Turkish prime minister starts weeping after seeing the dreadful conditions of Burmese Muslims. We appreciate the courage of Turkish government and hope they will continue their leading role to support Burmese Muslims.”
One must give a judgmental thought to such a deception that instead of sending armies to Burma, the so-called Muslim rulers of the Muslim states send their women to console the deaths of Muslims.
Instead of mobilizing armies and giving a stern warning to the brutal regime, they are handing the victims boxes of food that will not last even a week, after which they will be left over there again in the hands of the same butchers.
Neither the government of Pakistan nor any other Muslim nations have looked seriously into this issue. If they would have been serious for the Muslims, they would have taken necessary measures without any delay and not after thousands of Muslims became victims of terrorist Buddhist monks. — Syed Hassam Ahmed, by e-mail
Parenting skills
This is in reference to your news story “Baby left in car in UAE found.” It was great news to hear that this little girl had been found alive and well. However, I do believe the parents need a course in parenting skills. How could anyone be so irresponsible as to leave his or her baby in a car with the engine running? Would you leave a million dollars sitting in a car with the engine running? Well, which is worth more? What were the parents thinking? — Joe Macnab, Riyadh
Firecracker hazards
This refers to the report “Firecrackers’ dangers highlighted” (Aug. 22). Indeed, firecrackers are very dangerous for health, especially for eyes. Parents must take utmost care and they should not allow their children to use firecrackers.
Eyes are precious for human beings, and playing with firecrackers endangers this precious gift. Many people think that it is only manifestation of joy. I think joy cannot be expressed by anything which poses hazard to physical health. In India, many people are loosing their eyesight and burning their bodies during Diwali, a Hindu festival, and in other festivities.
I think companies which manufacture such type of dangerous products must not be given licenses to operate at all. — Anees Lokhande, Alkhobar
Assange’s crimes
This is regarding the column “Britain’s threat to Ecuador over Assange a diplomatic faux pas?” Ecuador should have stayed out of this matter, I do not see for what reason it got involved in this matter. Julian Assange is accused of very serious crimes in Sweden (which is a democratic country with a fair legal system. He is accused by Sweden of committing rape, among other offences of sexual nature.
I believe Britain has the right to extradite Assange just like any other person accused of committing serious offenses. Assange will get a fair trial in Sweden, and will have his day in court, and no body is above the law, even Assange! However, I think Britain should expel the Ecuadorian ambassador and close the Ecuadorian Embassy in London if Ecuador refuses to hand over Assange to British police. No embassy should be used to shield persons accused of committing serious crimes. — Osama Alobaidy, Riyadh
