The Manila-based Bayan Mo IPatrol Mo (BMPM) has helped an expatriate Filipino working as a housemaid in the Saudi capital return back to the Philippines, according to a report.
Rosalie Maquirang, the Filipino worker, was allegedly being forced by her employer to continue working despite being severely ill and was even brought to the house of her employer’s relatives and asked to work there as well.
The matter was brought to the attention of BMPM, which contacted the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Riyadh (POLO-Riyadh) and informed them of Maquirang’s predicament.
POLO-Riyadh acted on the complaint and contacted Maquirang, who was then placed under the care of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) while waiting for her papers to be processed.
Ruth Daza of the OWWA at the POLO-Riyadh brought her to the Bahay Kalinga (BK), where stranded female OFWs stay.
The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Maquirang is free to seek government assistance through OWWA.
“She’s a distressed housemaid worker and is entitled to the benefits granted by OWWA to OFWs,” said Director Nicon Fameronag of the DOLE Communications Office.
Maquirang was flown back to Manila by her agency, and has recently reunited with her husband and four children.
