Jeddah inspection teams clamped down on the city’s abattoirs closing over 30 butcheries and issuing warnings to 10 others for violations including hiking prices, not complying with health standards and holding expired licenses, according to Jeddah Municipality spokesman Mohammad Al-Buqami.
He stressed that the municipality wants to ensure that traders comply with health standards and that local markets abide with the municipality’s regulations which aim to ensure that consumers do not buy products which may pose a risk to their health.
The spokesperson underlined the fact that the campaign is in line with the municipality’s aim to protect consumers interests, adding that they had received several complaints about the poor hygienic conditions of some stores in the city.
