JEDDAH: Friendster-New Cabalen Restaurant poured cold water on PhilCon E-Life Generals’ hopes for a twice to beat edge in the semifinal when it won their strong match 81-77 in Week 6 in the 1st Orient Watch Cup and 11th Filsama Basketball League Conference at Star Clubs Gymnasium in Faisaliyah District here.
The result left the erstwhile unbeaten Generals with a 4-1 win-loss card in the Above 40 Division standings and Cris Melebo’s Friendster at 3-1.
The Generals and Friendster are assured of the first two semifinal berths with the last two still up for grabs although Rabea Tea and Panino’s-Uncle Majid looked to have the edge both at 3-2, after Rabea overwhelmed Panino’s 126-73 in the second game Thursday.
Airnet SUME and BMG Knights of Chairman Rolly Alano at 2-2 and 2-3 respectively face off today each hoping to crowd Rabea and Panino’s for a spot in the next round.
Veteran guard Jameel Khobre scored 24 points and along with Castillo 22 and Barry Nader 18 formed the three-pronged Friendster attack that deeply bothered the Generals.
J. Dimalig led the Generals’ losing cause with 24 points. Nonoy Soliveres, Seguis and Daudi contributed 14, 13 and 12 poins in that order.
In setting the league’s biggest winning margin so far, Rabea Tea got 32 points from Callueng, 31 from Yusoph, 19 from Manlangit and 16 from Alde.
In another lopsided contest, Jeddah Guards of Hassan Zeineddein crushed Slammers 99-53 in the Open Rated B Reinforced Division.
Abdelhay and Masry led the Guards charge on 18 and 17 points followed by Masry 17 and Junaid and Jebae who each tallied 16 points. Big Mark Elamparo topscored for Slammers on 11 points.
The Inter Company Open Non Rated Division looked set for the semifinal after the Week 6 games that saw shorthanded but fighting Pinky’z five beating Jaccob team 89-081 in the third game Thursday and Wasalak winning by 9 points over Sharbatly 90-81.
Pinky’z improved to 4-2 Wasalak to 3-2 in a tie with idle Dabarkads, as this trio are set to join Friendster 4-0 to the next round. Friendster will be looking to seal a twice to beat privilege by winning its remaining three games .
Asmad shot a night-high 39 points to spearhead the Pinky’z which also drew 30 points from ARmina and 17 from Casia. Jacob had Omar at the helm on 22 points followed by Rinz 17 and Renante 15.
Ali, Ismael and Caputol shared scoring honors at Wasalak on 15 points apiece.
