MANILA: Philippine police say a Christian missionary from South Korea has been bludgeoned to death with a spade and a cooking gas tank by a robber who broke into his home southeast of Manila.
Police investigator Hector Cardinales says Sim Jae-jok, 57, woke up at dawn Friday to jog and apparently saw the robber in his kitchen. The two scuffled and a neighbor saw the robber hitting the Korean with a cooking gas tank repeatedly.
Police said the Korean wife of the victim locked herself in a bedroom and the robber, who wore a hat to conceal his identity, later escaped after apparently taking a laptop and a cellphone.
The Korean couple belongs to a Christian group that helps poor communities.
