RYADH: The details of an incident concerning a traffic policeman hitting a young man after a car accident in Riyadh have emerged in the press.
This has been followed by the assurance of Riyadh's director of traffic assuring the family of the young man that the accused will be arrested and justice done.
The brother of the young man was quoted as saying by a local newspaper that at seven o'clock in the morning last Wednesday, 11/8/1437, his brother was involved in a traffic accident on Hail Street in the Al-Nuzha neighborhood of Riyadh. Following this, his brother asked for the help of the traffic patrol.
He added: “When the traffic patrol reached the scene of the accident, they took my brother into their vehicle without any apparent reason and drove him to a vacant plot of land where he was shackled with handcuffs and beaten severely. My brother cried for help from another traffic policeman who was watching from a distance. But instead of helping him, he too joined in the beating. When they finished beating him, they forced him to sign a document clearing them of any responsibility.”
He told the newspaper that while he was sitting at home around eleven o'clock that same morning the doorbell rang, and when he opened the door he found his brother covered in blood accompanied by a policeman.
“My brother did not say a word and was clearly very afraid. I talked to the policeman asking him why there was blood all over my brother’s clothes, and he told me that my brother suffered a minor traffic accident and that we needed to go to the traffic department to reclaim the vehicle and complete the necessary procedures,” he added.
But later when he talked to his brother and found out what had actually happened, they filed a complaint with the police. The brothers with their mother then went to a hospital to get a medical report on his condition.
