RIYADH: The dead shooter of prominent Saudi scholar and preacher Sheikh Ayedh Al-Qarni, at Zamboanga city, Philippines, in March this year, was a member of the Filipino Hezbollah group.
This was disclosed to Arab News on Monday by Al-Qarni, in an exclusive interview after the scholar spent almost three months of hospitalization and recovery from his injuries in both the Philippine and Saudi hospitals.
“Some investigators told me, when I was under treatment in the Philippines, that the initial investigation indicated the killed shooter in my incident was a Filipino Shia member of the Hezbollah group and he was a regular visitor to the Iranian cultural center where usually Shia cult was propagated and Iran advocacy promoted,” he said.
Al-Qarni said that he would not hesitate to go to the Philippines again to preach and teach Muslims after the shooting incident. “Death can happen to anyone, anytime, even when he is at his bed,” he said.
Sheikh Al-Qarni, 57, is one of most popular Saudi scholars, especially among youths, and has a massive following in both the Kingdom and Muslim communities around the world.
