RIYADH: The Special Criminal Court sentenced a Saudi to 11 years in prison for supporting Daesh, portraying the country's leadership authorities and scholars in a negative light and threatening the police with explosive belts.
The convict described the country's leaders and scholars as apostates and made arrangements for one of his friends to travel to Syria to join Daesh.
The person was also convicted of arranging his friend's travels for money.
The court also found him guilty of trying to travel to Yemen to join Daesh and take part in the fighting there through communicating with one of its members there. He was also accused of setting up social media accounts to undermine the ruling system and spread Daesh’s ideas, while posting negative comments about higher authorities, scholars and security men, and attempting to carry out explosive belt attacks in their vicinity.
The investigation team found that the convict had been in contact with a number of those who belonged to terror organizations and covering up for one of these men who offered to blow up the General Directorate for Security and kill members of the police. The team found he also had links to Osama Bin Laden and had pictures of him as well as others on his private account.
Other charges against him included belonging to a cell that smuggled persons inside the country and harboring them, as well as car theft, changing number plates and indulging in peddling drugs, according to Al-Hayat.
