RIYADH: Authorities in Hafr Al-Batin recently arrested four young men for blocking a road in the city for the purpose of car drifting.
“Four are arrested, although about 61 men were involved in car drifting. Some of the cars have also been seized,” said police chief Capt. Thamir Al-Askar.
Police operatives teamed up with their counterparts in the military, headed by Col. Faiz Al-Shahrani, in launching the crackdown against car drifters, he said.
He expressed hope that the crackdown would serve as a warning to others who have been participating in similar activities.
Al-Askar said the crackdown was launched after his office received numerous complaints from locals facing road blockage due to car drifting.
“They said a road had been closed off to traffic for the last six days for car drifting and those involved were not fasting and were eating in broad daylight,” he said.
“Car drifting is one of the causes of numerous accidents in the region. We could prevent these accidents if residents report such activity in time,” he said.
He said it was not good for these youngsters to skip Ramadan fasting and urge parents in general to tell their children the importance of the holy month.
