JEDDAH: The Eid festival began with enthusiasm, happiness and celebration in the “Your Eid is Our Eid” 2016 festival which was organized by Jeddah Municipality at six different locations around Jeddah.

Mohammed bin Ali Al-Yami, the general manager of social services at the municipality, said the Your Eid is Our Eid 2016 festival included a range of cultural and artistic activities, and family entertainment programs to spend a good time on Eid Al-Fitr.
The people of Jeddah and visitors are enjoying festival full of entertainment, which will continue for 10 days, starting from the first of Shawwal, at six venues such as the Arabian compound, Rahma Mosque Corniche, Al-Ahli Club, in Jeddah parks, beaches and malls, with a variety of cultural, sports and recreational activities for children and adults, as well as folkloric performances, children’s theater and contests, games for children, painting, lucky draws, fireworks at the northern and southern Corniche for three continuous days, and other programs according to the schedule of events published on the municipality website.
Dr. Hansan Buksh, a citizen, said that the municipality arranged the festival very nicely as it is organized for families to spend quality time together. “We enjoyed the children’s theater with moral messages, and also the children participated in the lucky draw. It was great to watch the children having fun, and we also enjoyed the fireworks at the Corniche,” he said.
Another visitor, Adel Saleh, said that the Your Eid is Our Eid 2016 festival brought lots of fun where visitors could see old-fashioned games, and children can play on rides that are restored to bring back their authenticity.
Whether families are walking around the beaches, park walkways or theme parks, they can enjoy different kinds of food offered all day long.
The municipality arranges the annual fireworks display at the beaches, which is usually the perfect ending after an eventful day of festivities.
“Whichever activity people choose to do during the holidays, the most important factor for happiness is reuniting the entire family during this special time of year and the Eid festival is a place where the whole family enjoy the celebration,” he said.
The Eid festival has folklore shows, different dances such as the popular Mizmar, Khebeity, Yunbawai, Bahri, and others. A dance wouldn’t be complete without the Hijazi tradition of “majas” where a professional singer leads the performance.
Eid is the time when children can enjoy celebrating with lots of special activities. There are various contests offering prizes held in malls, theme parks and public parks. Every year children enjoy attending theater performances at the festival featuring cartoon characters and popular themes. For adults, there are also various plays and comedy shows.
