This is with reference to the report “Corruption of SR14m under Nazaha probe” (July 18). There is a great need to further empower Nazaha to effectively fight corruption in the Kingdom. Corruption is a major obstacle on the path to progress. Digitization of procedures and formation of a national database would be very important to fight corruption in the Kingdom. Saudi Arabia has already successfully introduced online procedures for various services. A project should be launched to create a national database that should include the data of all ministries and Nazaha should be linked to it. This way the anti-graft body could effectively monitor all procedures with much ease and could take action against corrupt practices on time.
In addition to that Nazaha should introduce a hot-line for the public who could report corruption to the authority. Saudi Arabia has huge potential in almost every field but due to corruption it has so far been unable to realize that potential. — Jawaria Siddiqui, Riyadh
