Arab expat held over bid to ‘net’ women

RIYADH: An Arab expatriate has been arrested, along with his female accomplice, in Riyadh for using social media to lure women for illegitimate relations.
Surprisingly, the suspect had been jailed for theft and deported to his country nine years ago, but he returned to the Kingdom on a forged passport, local media quoted the police as saying.
The recent arrest was made following a tip-off from a woman, Col. Fawaz Al-Maiman, spokesman of the Riyadh police, said.
“The police received a report about the expat that he not only used his account for inappropriate activities, but also challenged the ability of the security authorities to arrest him,” he said.
Al-Maiman said the authorities verified the accuracy of the complaint and monitored the suspect’s account. “He was arrested in a raid carried out in coordination with the Riyadh police and road special forces.”
The man is in his thirties and is of Arab origin, said the police spokesman, adding that the Arab woman accomplice is neither related to the suspect nor has any personal identity proof.
Al-Maiman said the authorities have taken necessary measures against the suspect and informed Riyadh branch of the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia).
