Filipinos provide aid to distressed compatriots

RIYADH: Filipino organizations joined forces to organize relief work on Friday as part of their humanitarian services for the distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at Saudi Oger and Samama Co.
Under the umbrella of the newly-formed organization, Diversified Movement of the Empowered Migrants (DMEM), formerly known as Duterte Middle East Movement, a group of Paglingap Manggagawa (OFWs Care), a group allied with DMEM delivered grocery bags at various camps in the capital.
According to Gilbert G. Alarcon, the DMEM adviser for Luzon Affairs, the three humanitarian activities of the group cover supply of relief material and feeding program for the distressed and unpaid OFWs, in addition to the women staying at the Philippine Embassy-rented house, Bahay Kalinga.
“There is no greater joy than sharing our blessings, love and care with those OFWs who are in dire need,” Alarcon, who is also the PM spokesperson, told Arab News.
The feeding activities on Friday was led by the logistic committee team, headed by Michael Pera, DMEM Adviser for Visayan Affairs; Ferdinand Maquiling, Edson Estorque, besides Joy Senajon and Marilyn Enguito of the women’s committee.
The afternoon activities intended for women distressed at Samama was headed by Alarcon, John Monterona and Ruel Espana.
“This is a good example that can influence people in helping our kababayans” said Arnold Dela-Cruz, an official of DMEM.
