RIYADH: Awasser, a charity taking care of Saudi families abroad, has warned against marriages in foreign countries because of their effects on the families.
It has particularly warned against the cases in which mothers are foreigners and children have their own birth certificates, SPA reported.
Tawfeeq bin Abdulaziz Al-Suwailim, Awasser chairman, has emphasized the need for creating awareness about the dangers of such marriages, done by the citizens for the purpose of tourism or work, particularly by youths.
He said that such marriages have adverse social and economic effects, harming the social fabric. They increase cases of divorce and family violence, he said, adding that many people applied for permission for marriages abroad in the past several years. Al-Suwailim said while choosing a wife, extra care should be taken, and that beauty should not be the standard.
People should keep distance from marriage brokers even at airports. They should learn from the experience of others who have undergone the same process. He said many marriages with foreigners have failed just due to differences in the traditions, practices and cultures, and the victims are the children.
He urged those who wanted to get married abroad to get official approval from the relevant authorities to make the registration of wives and children easy in future.
Al-Suwailim said Awasser takes care of 2,238 families, with 8,012 members living in 31 countries.
The organization works with the Foreign Ministry with the help of the Kingdom’s embassies around the world to get the maximum information about the members of Saudi families abroad who need help.
