New prices for coffins used to transport the deceased

RIYADH: The Health Ministry has set a new price on coffins used to transport the deceased back to their country of origin. The price is now set at SR4,000 and includes the embalming of the body, as well as the preparation of the coffin. The price doesn’t include the transportation of the body from the hospital to the embalming center or to the airport, however.
Nonetheless, the Ministry of Health is expected to provide exceptions to foreigners contracted with the ministry in the event of their passing, including doctors and technicians, who would be transported freely. In such cases, the forensic department can charge the ministry for embalming and preparing the coffin.
Prior to any work being done on the body, proper regulations must be followed, including getting the burial permit and a death certificate, as well as an air transport reservation and the application of all appropriate fares, as agreed upon by the embassy of the country that the coffin is going to.
The transport of the body must also comply with the IATA regulations concerning the transportation of the corpse between various airports and the classification of coffins according to international standards.
