Carry on, Sindhu...

Carry on, Sindhu...

This refers to the report “Spain’s Marin screeches to gold over fighting Sindhu of India” (Aug. 20). There was a time when badminton in both men and women sections was dominated by Chinese and Indonesian players. In the 2012 London Olympics, China bagged all five badminton gold medals. However, in the Rio Olympics, there were no Chinese player in the women’s final. Carolina Marin from Spain won the gold medal defeating P.V. Sindhu from India.
Women badminton players have provided much hope and happiness to the country. In the last Olympic Games, Saina Nehwal won the bronze medal, and Sindhu brought the silver medal this time.
Sindhu’s coach, Gopichand, also deserves to be praised for India’s success. He is a real task master and follows the Chinese techniques. Moreover, Sindhu is only 21 and has age on her side. Surely, she can bring more glory to the nation.
