Uncharitable remarks

This is with reference to the report “Duterte tells Obama not to question him about killings” (Sept. 6). I am a huge fan of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte but his latest remarks about US President Barack Obama are condemnable. Use of foul language does not suit the office of the president. Such an attitude is unacceptable. We live in a global village wherein our interests are interlinked. It is correct that the United States’ own record on human rights is not very exemplary but that does not justify such below-the-belt remarks and use of swear words against another president, who is known for his decent behavior.
Duterte seriously needs to mend his ways or to be more precise mind his language. It is the people of Philippines who have given him a mandate and only they could tolerate such a harsh style. Duterte should try to avoid stirring such controversies and focus more on his war on corruption and drugs. — Masood K. Usman, Dammam
