It is true that no one can give a guarantee on B-town relationships. Snaps in relationships seem to be happening repeatedly.

Take the case of actors and their mentors. We mean actors who get attached to their directors for giving them that ‘lucky’ film that set fire to their careers. This mentor-protege attachment is indeed fleeting, as has been proved time and again. Some remain grateful to their mentors. Some opt to part ways and turn a blind eye to the savior who actually gave them their ‘break’.

The latest from Bollywood is that Vidya Balan is maintaining distance from R Balki, who directed her in the celebrated 2009 film, ‘Paa’. Apparently, the filmmaker had invited her for ‘Shamitabh’s’ music launch but she excused herself, since she was holidaying in the US with hubby Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Also, she was supposed to attend the film’s screening but according to rumors, she decided to give it a miss (despite being in town). So again, the question crops up — what are the possible reasons for Vidya avoiding Balki? Has there been a fallout?

Last year the ‘Kahaani’ girl hit headlines when she stepped down from filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh’s movie — ‘Durga Rani Singh’. The reason: health. He landed up with huge losses with her last-minute pullout, as all arrangements for the shoot were made in Kolkata. This was the last straw. Finally, it led to the snapping of the Sujoy-Vidya kinship. Sad, for this bonding had produced the trend-setting ‘Kahaani’ (2012).

It did look like the two ‘lost’ friends had let bygones be bygones. They did not bring up the topic of their soured relationship. But, recently Vidya revealed that she is not on talking terms with her once-upon-a-time mentor. “I think that way (like friends), he (Sujoy) and I are not communicating with each other at all, and I don’t know what the future holds ... that’s all I can say,” she was quoted by Hindustan Times.

She seemed slightly upset, however. “I am a little sad I couldn’t work in this project because we made ‘Kahaani’ together and we were like parents of ‘Kahaani’. It was a very difficult decision for me to say no to ‘Durga Rani Singh’, but I was not keeping well so I couldn’t do it. I had no option,” said the National Award winning actor.

The result? Ghosh had to finally shelve ‘Durga Rani Singh’ reportedly due to finances, since he failed to find an A-Lister to replace Vidya, after (hold on!) both Kangana Ranaut and Kareena Kapoor Khan also walked out of the film. The rumor mills had fished out reasons — that Vidya quit the project because she was pregnant, and that she had actually opted out of the film because her husband, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, had refused to finance the film! Again, due to unknown reasons, Vidya has not signed plenty of movies. Now, she is only focussed on Mohit Suri’s next directorial ‘Humari Adhuri Kahani’ featuring Emraan Hashmi and Rajkumar Rao in the lead roles opposite her.

We got a peek into the ‘first look’ of the film, as producer Mahesh Bhatt unveiled the poster of the film via Twitter. It features Vidya and Emraan in an intense eye-lock. Weaving magic — that’s what Emraan and Vidya’s pairing has always done — be it in ‘The Dirty Picture’ or ‘Ghanchakkar’. ‘Humari Adhuri Kahani’ is an emotional love story, and we hope that it will cast a spell, and tug at people’s heart strings too.
