NEW DELHI: India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), battling outrage over senior leader Kailash Vijayvargiya’s tweet attack on Shah Rukh Khan, faced more anger on Wednesday when party lawmaker Yogi Adityanath compared the Bollywood star with Pakistani militant leader Hafiz Saeed.

“If Muslims don’t see his films, Khan will be on the roads. There is no difference in what Khan and Hafiz Saeed say,” said Aditynath, not long after Vijayvargiya said that he was withdrawing the anti-Shah Rukh tweets that earned him strong criticism from his own party and others.

Reacting to Khan’s comments on “intolerance,” Vijayvargiya, BJP general secretary, had tweeted on Tuesday, “Shah Rukh Khan lives in India, but his heart is in Pakistan. His films make crores here but he finds India intolerant.”

The retraction came on Twitter too. “I did not intent to hurt anyone. I take back my tweets,” the BJP leader said.

The BJP has distanced itself from the remarks of both leaders.

Separately, NDTV reported on Wednesday that Pakistani classic singer Ghulam Ali’s concert in India has been canceled for a second time in a month.

The 74-year-old singer’s son Aamir said his father did not want to perform after what happened in Mumbai where his scheduled concert last month was canceled after Shiv Sena threatened to disrupt it. He, however, said Ali will visit when the atmosphere is right.

“The Nov. 8 concert (in Delhi) is not happening now. After what happened in Mumbai, we don’t want to take any risk. The atmosphere should be right for music. We don’t want to get involved in any kind of politics. So much is happening there, it would not be right for us to come at this time,” Aamir said.
