It seems singing and acting go hand-in-hand. And many a Bollywood star has sung his/ her own song. And, not just that, they are also hopeful of bagging awards.

But, do awards really matter?

Salman Khan does not care for awards, but the buzz was that he was hopeful that he would be nominated in the Best Singer category for his last flick “Kick”. And, if luck was on his side, perhaps win an award too.

We know that the Dabangg star has been working hard on his vocal chords in his films of late, and the actor felt he deserved at least a mention. Apparently he asked his besties, composer duo Sajid-Wajid, why no one takes his singing seriously. He was told that only stable singers get nominations and everyone knows how award ceremonies are scripted. Which brings us to the question — is Salman next in line to ignore awards, after Aamir Khan and Kangana Ranaut?

Sonakshi Sinha is the new entrant in the ‘actor-singer club’ as she made her singing debut with her recent film “Tevar”. Though she hasn’t sung the entire track, she has crooned a line in the song ‘Lets celebrate’. According to a report in a daily, the Shotgun girl wants her favorite director, Prabhudeva to give her a full fledged chance to display her singing talent in his next film.

Now, coming to actor-filmmaker-singer Farhan Akhtar, is in the news now as he has sung the first duet of his career in his sister’s forthcoming film “Dil Dhadakne Do.” Giving him company is actress-singer Priyanka Chopra.

Confirming this exciting combo, Farhan said, “Yes, Priyanka and I have sung a duet in ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’. According to sources, the duo has sung a “smoldering smoky love ballad steeped in nostalgia and longing.” Obviously, the song has been filmed on Farhan and Priyanka — as neither of the actors-turned-singers is willing to playback for other actors!

But, would they playback for other actors in B-town? “I don’t see myself giving voice to other actors.

It just doesn’t work for me,” explained Farhan. As for Priyanka, one has ample reason to believe she wouldn’t sing for other heroines...

Another budding singer in line is — Priyanka’s little sister Parineeti Chopra. She says, “Singing is my dream... I am a trained classical vocalist in Hindustani music from the Agra gharana and have done my BA Honors in classical music. I can’t compose music or write lyrics. I will only sing for my films.”

Sources reveal that Parineeti is desperate to croon in her next film. Recently, she was heard saying, “One new thing I would like to do this year is playback singing in my movie.” She added, “My sister Priyanka Chopra has now released an album and she’s been extremely successful. That has motivated me now, to sing as well. Our whole family is into music. It was something I always knew I would pursue, it was just a matter of time when.”

Amitabh Bachchan too, has showcased his singing talent once again in his upcoming film “Shamitabh”, where the megastar is seen crooning ‘Piddly si baatein’. Piddly’s appealing tune, composed by Illaiyaraaja, combined with AB’s rough, untrained voice and impressive personality is already catching on.

The new crop of female actors are also most eager to give voice to their own songs. Check out Alia Bhatt in “Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania” and “Highway” and Shraddha Kapoor in “Ek Villain.”

So, it sure looks like actors crooning to their own tune — is here to stay!
