Pawns in India-Pakistan game

This refers to the article “Indian Muslims: Pawns in Indo-Pak game” by Aijaz Zaka Syed. One more brilliant piece that kept me engrossed till the end. The last part was just superb and the writer’s ultimate advice for the Pakistani leaders was very timely. There is no room or need for any Pakistani official, whatever be his stature or position to talk on behalf of any Indian Muslim. Of course, as an Indian, I find the interference by Hafiz Saeed most deplorable.
Although, I would not join the bandwagon of the group asking the Indian Muslims to hurl abuses or sing hate songs against Pakistan to prove their patriotism, yet, I would not mince any words in de-aligning myself from that country as I see nothing much in common as far as the polity is concerned. I would always repeat, despite the occasional oppression and the hard-line approach of certain communal groups, the secular fabric of India is indeed very strong.
There is a need to ban formation or operation of political parties on religious grounds and the Election Commission must strictly prohibit election campaigns on issues related to religion or faith. This will eliminate the religious and caste politics from the face of Indian polity and we will have governments which will be broad-based and more focused on issues related to economic and social development rather than catering to the vested political interests.
I was appalled to hear the distasteful hate speech of Akbaruddin Owaisi and felt ashamed to be hailing from the same place. Whatever be the circumstances, there was absolutely no point in attacking the religious beliefs and faith of other communities.
I believe, there was no point or necessity for Shahrukh Khan to indulge in that diatribe as I do not think he faces any discrimination in the real terms. Accusation by one group or questioning him his allegiance toward India did not warrant him to go full throttle in the media with a view to gain sympathy or carve out a mileage in the tinsel world. What should interest his fans and public alike is how much did he contribute in cash and kind toward the poor and downtrodden sections of the society? — Safi H. Jannaty, Dammam
