Phase four of Makkah’s traffic study begins

The fourth phase of a study on traffic problems in and around Makkah is currently underway.
The study, administered by the Center of Excellence in Haj and Umrah Research (CEHOR) at Um Al-Qurah University, is focusing on finding scientific and practical solutions to the constant traffic problems that occur particularly during Haj and Umrah.
The network of traffic flow from the main road into Makkah to the streets leading to the Holy Mosque is being studied. Traffic will be monitored and comparisons made between normal daily flow and seasonal flow.
Dr. Adnan bin Abdulaziz Qutub, manager of CEHOR, said the purpose of the study is to improve the standard of roads in the area, increase traffic flow, solve traffic tie-ups, and reduce congestion particularly during high traffic periods like Hajj. He said results collected from the three previous phases of the study as well as from preceding studies on the topic, will be factored in this phase.
