RIYADH: The Ministry of Culture and Information will open a painting exhibition on contemporary Saudi painting and other allied arts.
The exhibition aims to encourage Saudi artists to focus on creative works, provide them with an opportunity to compare their experiences, discover new talents, promote artistic taste and spread a culture of visual arts, said Undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture and Information Nasser Al-Hujailan.
“The exhibition, to be organized under the auspices of Minister of Culture and Information Abdul Aziz Khoja at the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Center for Arts in Riyadh, will showcase more than 100 paintings and other artworks in which 77 artists will participate.
The works will have abstract contents expressed in varying contemporary mediums and styles,” Al-Hujailan said.
The 22nd exhibition of the Saudi contemporary painting and allied arts is a major step to promote arts in the Kingdom, he added.
The organizing committing received 177 art works from more than 183 artists, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday.
He added that the winners of prizes include Abdul Aziz Al-Najim, Nazir Yawaz, Huda Al-Mazroue, Taghrid Al-Baghshi, Muhammad Al-Shahri, Ibrahim Al-Khabrani, Muhammad Rabat, Mashael Al-Kulaib, Iman Al-Jeshi and Abdo Arishi.
Those who won the jury prizes are Abdullah Al-Marzouq, Abdullah Nawawi, Nasser Al-Musa.
The winners will be honored at the 10-day exhibition and awarded cash prizes, medals and certificates of appreciation.
The participants in the event will be given participation certificates, he said.
The exhibition will be open for the public at 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on all the 10 days, he said.
