The municipality of Dammam has closed six gas stations and is planning to close another 10 for not agreeing to upgrade their facilities and for not abiding by the new guidelines.
In an effort to ensure all gas stations in Dammam comply with the required safety regulations and enhance their services, the municipality launched a project entitled “Improvement and Development.”
Mazin Bakhraji, head of the Dammam municipality, said that under the program 73 percent of the gas stations implemented the new municipal regulations. “Forty-five gas stations carried out the necessary requirements and received clearance certificates from the municipality,” he said.
Bakhraji said four development proposals were approved for four stations and they were consequently given the necessary permits.
“Developing a safe and beautiful city is one of the major objectives of our municipality,” he added.
In addition, the municipality formed a technical committee called “Dammam gas stations’ improvement and follow-up program” and developed a work plan for the main streets, targeting stations violating regulations and technical requirements and marring the landscape.
