Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal ordered an investigation into violations during a comedy festival at an entertainment park in Jeddah.

The organizers of the festival, held on Friday at Al-Shallal Theme Park, were accused of violations, including mixing of genders.

Abdul Ruhman Al-Jabri, media spokesman, said Prince Khaled reviewed reports that documented all violations. He ordered that the case be transferred to a special government body for investigation.

The two-day comedy festival elicited several reactions on the social media. The mixed gathering was condemned by many Saudi citizens. They said Saudi society cannot accept festivities that violate local customs and religious values.

“It is mandatory that all festivals in the Kingdom should have separate sections for men and women,” they said. Several pictures of the mixed event were posted on social websites.
