Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to arrive in the Kingdom on Thursday morning to perform Umrah during a two-day visit, the country’s consul general, Nazmul Islam, said in Jeddah.

“The prime minister will be accompanied by her family members, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni and a few members of Parliament,” said Islam.

Her visit to the Kingdom follows her participation in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) that was held last week in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The consul general confirmed that the PM’s visit will be a very private one and that she would go directly to Makkah to perform Umrah. Hasina will also visit the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on the same day.

According to Islam, the visiting prime minister is expected to discuss the current labor status of Bangladeshi workers and provide instructions for the welfare of her people among diplomatic missions and community leaders.

The consul general also confirmed that 800,000 Bangladeshi workers have benefitted from the amnesty period and successfully legalized their statuses and that others have managed to leave the country.
