As many as 1,915 building violations were recorded by the Riyadh Municipality over a period of only one month this year, according to its Buildings and Facilities Control department.

“This is part of the municipality’s efforts to achieve the objectives of the Buildings and Facilities Control department to curb construction violations of any type and raise the quality of all the construction projects in the country,” a statement released by the Riyadh Municipality recently said.

According to the municipality’s report, which was filed with the collaboration of Dar Al Riyadh Engineering Consulting, 643 of the irregularities registered were in the northeast area of Riyadh: Rawdah, Al-Naseem, Olaya and Malaz.

While there were 499 infractions in northwest of Riyadh, involving mostly terms of construction spaces, the report recorded 410 irregularities in the southeast of Riyadh (Batha, Al-Silly, Azizia and Ha-er) and 360 such cases in southwest of Riyadh.

The Building and Facilities Control department seeks to monitor all the city’s buildings and facilities to guarantee the least possible amount of infractions dealing with construction. Workers at this department also want to raise the level of public awareness regarding building regulations and compliance with approved building permits.

It also works to maintain the city’s infrastructure by issuing reports of irregularities that occur on sidewalks, roads, streets and public utilities, penalyzing offenders and issuing notices in this regard.
