Saudi Arabia will hold those who kidnapped its deputy consul in Aden Abdullah Al-Khalidi responsible for his safety, a spokesman of the Interior Ministry said yesterday.

The spokesman was responding to media reports that claimed Al-Khalidi had requested Saudi authorities to meet Al-Qaeda demands to secure his release.

“The media material on Al-Khalidi being circulated does not contain the date when it was recorded,” the spokesman said.

"I appeal to King Abdullah... and the Saudi government to save me and release me from Al-Qaeda organization in return for releasing the sisters detained in general investigation prisons and fulfilling the remaining demands of the organization," Al-Khalidi allegedly said in the video, posted late Friday.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula abducted Al-Khalidi on March 28 in a bid to secure the release of prisoners and collect a ransom.

"I also appeal to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques (King Abdullah) to return me to my family, my children and my wife," said Al-Khalidi, who appeared calm in the video, almost four minutes long.
