The Almaoada Association of Charity conducted a survey of the renewal of marital relations and found that 48 percent of husbands bid farewell to their wives before leaving the house against 21 who don’t. The latter is an indicator of a cold and weak relationship, which will negatively affect the future behavior of their children when they get married in their turn.

The latter sort of behavior also threatens the emotional bond between the spouses and points to problems within the family later.

The survey also showed that 38 percent of the respondents, male or female, gave presents to their spouses on a regular basis while 30 percent did so only on occasions. This increases the possibility of one of them resorting to alternative methods to fulfill this personal and emotional need which could have a negative effect on the other members of the family.

A significant finding of the survey was that 49 percent said that they felt the need for praise from their spouses in front of their children against 16 percent who did not care. Again, the low statistic for verbal praise indicates the lack of positive incentives for the wife which is a sign in itself of a weak relationship.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) says, “Whosoever does not thank people (for their favor) has not thanked Allah,” narrated by Ahmad, Abu Dawood, and Al-Tirmidhi.

With regard to the renewal of marital life, the survey found that 41 percent of the married couples wished to renew their marriage while 24 percent did not think it necessary. Not surprisingly, couples with the low rating would be prone to experiencing a dull married life with frequent hassles and arguments.

At the end of the survey, the association presented a number of recommendations suggested by the guidance and family reform centers which encouraged building a positive relationship with family members and between spouses in particular.

The association demanded that government bodies such as the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Culture and Information, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance establish programs which address family problems and promote positive relationships between spouses and among family members.
