RIYADH: The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has set up charity counters in public places to enable Muslims to give their charity during the last days Ramadan.

The charity counters are available throughout the Kingdom in all major malls, public market places and places frequented by the public.

There was a rush of anxious Muslims wanting to give their “Sadaqa, Zakat and Zakat Al-Fitr” when Arab News visited the charity counter at the Lulu Avenue Mall in Al-Murabbah.

Amin Al-Wasel, who was at the charity counter, told Arab News that they have a variety of packages for Muslims to contribute their charity according to their intentions (niyah).

“It starts from Zakat Al-Fitr on a payment of SR20 per head to helping a person to go for Umrah which would cost SR250,” Al-Wasel said.

He explained that the ministry has been implementing various charitable projects to help deserving resident and citizens in various ways.

He pointed out that the ministry has a big budget, solely funded by philanthropists, to carry out projects such as Islamic proselytizing, embracing new Muslims, mobile service to spread Islam, sending deserving Muslims for Umrah, distributing “fitra” rice to the poor and other related charitable work.

The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), which has more than 10 branch offices, has also made arrangements to collect charities for their various projects. Its “fitra” package for SR20 is for an individual.
