DAMMAM/MADINAH: Nearly 500,000 students in the Eastern Province returned to school yesterday after the summer break. In each government-run school in Dammam, Alkhobar, Jubail, Hofuf, Ras Tanura, Abqaiq, the students were welcomed with sweets to mark the just-concluded Eid Al-Fitr festivities, celebrating the end of Ramadan.
In primary schools, there were entertainment programs for the students. For those who were just beginning their schools, special activities were organized to make them feel comfortable.
“Every year, we receive new students and we make them go through an orientation program to familiarize them with our programs and academic activities,” said Ibrahim Al-Shehri, principal of Alkhobar High School. He urged parents to pay attention to their children’s studies and guide them as they take on new educational tasks.
Salman Al-Shethri, education center specialist at Alkhobar High School, said, “The students need support and guidance at the beginning in order to ease the difficulties that they may face later.”
Student Abdullah Al-Asmari said, “This is my final year at the school and I am ready.”
At Madinah's Taybah University, 61,000 students started studying in regular and external programs. The university's orientation week for students will last until Wednesday, said Adnan Al-Mazrou, the university director.
“All deanships and faculties are participating in the orientation week which is targeting three student categories: admitted students who will enroll in preparatory year, student who will specialize immediately and those who finished their preparatory year,” said Al-Mazrou.
Shaye Al-Qahatani, a university official, said the orientation week for the preparatory year students in Yunbu and Ola would last for two days. He said that Yunbu program is going to be on Saturday and Sunday, while in Ola it will be on Tuesday and Wednesday.
