A government intermediate school for girls has launched an etiquette and cleanliness program under the theme “My School My Responsibility.”

The program aims to teach students good manners and help them learn critical social skills that promotes respect and appreciation for family and teachers.

The cleanliness program started with several students wearing gloves and carrying plastic bags separating biodegradable trash and throwing them into separate bins.

Huda Aseeri, principal of the school, said: “This program was implemented to promote an awareness of cleanliness and etiquette among the students.

“It is important to help students understand how to conduct themselves in the classroom.”

The school seeks to promote the values of commitment, modesty, respect, team spirit and responsibility toward the community and the environment, she said.

The school has won an award from the Ministry of Education for the best performance and significant improvements in academic excellence among government schools in north Jeddah.

Aisha Al-Shehry, vice-principal, said the objective is to educate the students about protecting their environment, and merging traditional and modern lifestyles.

Students have also been asked to generate their own ideas on how to go about this process, she said. The program included several competitions, debates, and contests on etiquette and cleanliness.
