The Saudi government is moving toward transforming the Kingdom into a knowledge-based economy in line with the directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.

With this view, the Ministry of Economy and Planning is organizing a two-day conference titled “Knowledge-based economy and its role in national development,” with the participation of prominent global experts.

Eminent Indian academic and chairman of India’s National knowledge commission, Dr. Sam Pitroda, also known as “The father of the Indian communication revolution,” will be arriving to participate in the conference.

Sam Pitroda will share his experience in the Information and Telecommunication technology sector in the area of managing knowledge, promoting business performance, increasing efficiency and focusing information technology and telecommunication infrastructures.

The conference, which will be held in Riyadh, will be opened by Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal with Education Minister Prince Khalid Al-Faisal delivering the key note speech on the Kingdom’s transition to a knowledge based society.

The conference will aim to highlight the purpose of human resources and education as a means to develop the human element through advances in curriculum used in public education.

Sam Pitroda has a definite vision of how to use technology for the benefit of society. Moreover, he has a proven track record in India where he has enabled the country to become a giant in the world of IT solutions.

Prominent experts of other countries will also participate in the conference.
