JEDDAH: The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) said that combating harassment cases is part of its responsibility to promote Islamic values and morals in society.

“Those who harass women will be brought to book,” said Turki bin Abdullah Al-Shalil, a spokesman.

“The harassment cases have not become an epidemic,” he said. “Saudi society still frowns upon such behavior ... Such behavior is contrary to Islamic values and morality.”

He said Haia is keen on activating awareness campaigns as part of its mission to promote virtue. “Haia will stand firmly against persons who harass anyone,” he said.

“The commission receives reports about harassment issues through hotline No. 1909 and detains offenders. They are then transferred to specialized authorities.
