Jeddah Municipality plans to build 67,000 houses in two new fully serviced residential districts in the eastern and northern outskirts of the city through its Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company.

The Salman Bay district in the north will be constructed on a 3 million square meter area, while Wadi Al-Asla district in the east will cover an area of 130 million square meters. Saud Al-Barakati, director of the Salman Bay's contracting company, said the plans have been finalized for the 25,000-unit project. The demand is rising.

To buy a unit, a customer must pay 25 percent of its value when signing the contract, 30 percent when construction begins, 25 percent when electricity and plumping fittings are installed and 20 percent when he or she receives the unit's keys. He said the first phase would involve the construction of 5,000 three to six roomed apartments with parking for each one.

The prices range between SR 248,000 and SR 549,000. About 48 percent of the project will consist of roads, services and parks. The project will be completed in 20 months, he said.

It will have 24 mosques, one hospital, two polyclinics, water purification and water treatment plants, police and Red Crescent stations, special-needs center, seven boys’ schools, seven girls’ schools and a Qur'an memorization school.

Wadi Al-Asla will have 42,000 residential units, recreational parks, green areas and education, health, social and sport facilities. There will be municipal services for up to 170,000 visitors. The project is aimed at turning the area into an eastern corniche that has suitable spots for recreation and tourism, and the ability to create 12,000 jobs. It will cover 16 neighborhoods, three football fields, each with a capacity for 7,000 spectators, and an equestrian club.
