The Indian Embassy will hold an “Open House” for community members on the embassy premises tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 12 a.m. in the morning, embassy spokesman Surinder Bhagat said yesterday.

Bhagat called on Indian expatriate workers to attend the Open House and describe their grievances and problems so they can be immediately resolved.

“A number of embassy officials will be available at the Open House to answer questions from Indian citizens and to attend to their problems and grievances on a priority basis,” said Bhagat, while referring to the success of this new community welfare initiative launched by Ambassador Hamid Ali Rao.

During the Open House, community members can also meet Rao and other top officials to discuss their consular, labor-related or any other issues of individual or community interest. “The past experience of Open House has been very encouraging in addressing the grievances of Indian community members,” said the spokesman.

The embassy with a team of 120 staffers including diplomats exert all possible efforts to solve the problems faced by Indian workers, Bhagat said.

During the last fortnight, the embassy managed to rescue seven nurses from Riyadh and Hafr Al-Batin in cooperation with some community leaders. All these nurses have been repatriated back to India, where they have reunited with their families.

Five death cases involving Indian workers on average are registered on a daily basis, whereas the embassy also receives eight to 10 labor-related complaints every day. These are in addition to a number of different problems faced by workers.

Saudi Arabia is home to about 2.1 million Indian nationals.
