A program to shed light on the current political scenario in India in view of the ongoing general elections, especially in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, was hosted by Bazm-e-Ittehad (Jeddah), the cultural wing of the popular All-India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party.
Prominent members of the Indian community and heads of many social and cultural organizations, such as the Khak-e-Taiba Trust, Twin-Cities Youth Welfare Association, Deccan NRIs Group, Socio-Reforms Society, Urdu Academy and the Indian Youth Welfare Association, attended it.
Bazm-e-Ittehad President Ahmeduddin Owaisi said the AIMIM not only represented the Muslims of Hyderabad but also has in its ranks people of all faiths. “It is the voice of the voiceless people,” he said, and paid fulsome tributes to AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi for his “exemplary leadership.”
Recalling the ugly incidents in the aftermath of the county’s partition, Owaisi said: “Those were the difficult times and a period of untold misery for Muslims. It was during that time that AIMIM took up the cause of minorities and empowered them politically and salvaged their pride.”
He said the Owaisi family is dearer to the people of Hyderabad because of their practical work in the field. “Both Asaduddin and Akbaruddin Owaisi are in constant touch with the community and their issues.
They are there on the frontline solving the problems of the people and that is why they receive such adulation,” he said.
Bazm-e-Ittehad’s chief patron, Dr. Syed Ali Mahmood, highlighted the many activities carried out by the AIMIM leadership, including the setting up of educational institutions, top-class health care institutes and banking institutions for the benefit of the community. “By providing party ticket to non-Muslims during these elections, AIMIM has proved that it is one of the most secular parties in the country that is engaged in protecting the country’s constitution,” he said.
Bazm-e-Ittehad Vice President Mohammad Ubaidur Rehman emphasized the need for expats to motivate their relatives in Hyderabad and Andhra Pradesh to go in for hundred percent voting. “Exercising the democratic right of voting is the best form of supporting the AIMIM leadership,” he said.
Joint Secretary Syed Khaja Viqaruddin described the party’s future as bright under the current leadership. “We will fly high with our kite,” he said, referring to the AIMIM symbol.
