JEDDAH: The Jeddah municipality has closed down a popular restaurant following the discovery of a rat rummaging through food items.

The rat act was captured on video and posted on social media websites. It went viral, prompting the authorities to launch an investigation.

Mohammad Al-Bugami, spokesman of the municipality, said that the restaurant, London Fish and Chips, located inside Aziz Mall in Jeddah, was closed down after confirming the fact in the clip.

“Necessary action is being taken in this regard,”Al-Bugami was quoted as saying by local media. The municipality also tweeted about the action being taken against the restaurant.

The video clip shows that the rat was eating from the food prepared for customers at the restaurant.
