Jazan police netted 188,112 illegal expats last year

Jazan police arrested 188,112 illegal residents and foreign infiltrators and registered 190,776 traffic violations last year.
“The Jazan police have had remarkable success in combating crimes including smuggling of narcotic drugs, and violations of iqamah regulations and traffic rules,” spokesman of Jazan police Col. Awad Al-Qahtani said in a statement on Friday.
The suspects arrested by the police include 2,288 persons who violated iqamah and work regulations. The police also seized 687 cars from suspected criminals, and discovered 288 stolen vehicles and 82 unusable cars. A total of 1,221 motorcycles were found to have violated regulations, Al-Qahtani said.
The police also recorded 19 cases of impersonation, 738 cases of forgery, two cases of people resisting arrest, and 24 cases of people fleeing from checkpoints.
“The items confiscated last year from smugglers included 221 cartons and 1,711 packets of fireworks, 797 Captagon tablets, 268 kg of hashish, 20,851 kg of qat, 219 weapons of various kinds, and 91,163 rounds of ammunition in addition to 5,200 livestock,” he added.
The official said 573 people were killed and 2,991 people injured in 269,638 road accidents during the year. Traffic police also arrested 46,137 expatriates for various traffic violations, he said.
Secret traffic patrols observed 122 traffic accidents and 10,786 violations, 254 assaults on people and 4,220 criminal cases. The Special Forces for Road Safety detected 46,596 traffic violations, 18 cases of arms smuggling, 2,329 cases of other crimes and arrested disputing parties involved in 1,774 cases.
The narcotics administration in the province seized 431,356 kg of hashish and 525 Captagon tablets.
The province’s Director of Police Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Mashaikhi urged police officers to continue their dedicated service to tackle crime in the border province.
