An administrative court ordered the Jeddah Municipality on Sunday to pay a compensation of SR100 million to a Saudi businessman for violating his property rights. The businessman also accused the municipality of illegally reallocating his property to another businessman.
The court decided the compensation amount based on a report submitted by the real estate committee of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The verdict was issued after several hearings in which the respondent submitted documents to establish his legal ownership of the land, issued by a court and duly registered at the notary office.
Moreover, he revealed that the municipality had issued a second title deed on his land and granted it to another businessman to develop a residential project.
According to a source in the court, the price of the land was fixed after taking into account the conclusions reached in a report issued by real estate experts and the strategic location of the land.
The municipality, wants to appeal the verdict, however it must file the appeal within 30 days of receiving a copy of the judge’s ruling, as stipulated by the regulations.
