Municipal authorities in Jeddah have shut down a famous restaurant specializing in Indonesian cuisine following reports of seven people sustaining food poisoning.

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs issued the decision and ordered the restaurant to pay a total fine of SR 25,000, which included a SR 1,000 fine for each poisoning case.

The restaurant was found to have violated public health regulations due to inadequate food storage, unsanitary work environment and use of expired products. In addition, many dishes were found to have been served the next day.

The restaurant will be shut down for a month. A notice was placed on the front of the restaurant reading: “Shut down due to food poisoning.”

Action was taken following complaints of food poisoning. An investigation concluded that the poisoning originated at the restaurant.
