RIYADH: The Riyadh-based King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) will organize a workshop on “Sustainability of social development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Thursday.”

Seven key issues will be addressed by the participants of the workshop, one of which will be the positive effects of the application of sustainability approach to social development.

Another key issue that to be discussed at the event is barriers to sustainability in social development in the Kingdom and to find solutions and methods of preempting them.

The workshop will also address a number of challenges related to social issues, the most important of which are poverty, unemployment, disability, the elderly, lack of housing and orphans.

It will be conducted in the light of the areas of cooperation and partnership between the Ministry of Social Affairs and KACST.

The workshop will be held in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs through the National Center for Policy Studies and Social Research.

Among those expected to attend are experts in social development and stakeholders and decision-makers as well as beneficiaries of specialists in a number of government and charitable institutions.

These government and social institutions include the Ministries of Social Affairs, Housing and Health and the King Salman Center for Disability Research.

Also expected to attend the workshop is a group of local and international experts who are expected to provide the best practices applied by the international community in ensuring the promotion of sustainability and possible measures to address the current social challenges in the Kingdom.

The workshop aims to coordinate efforts to achieve sustainability in social development and to identify gaps, how to address these and come up with the required mechanism to resolve them.
