Saudi Arabia’s stance on terrorism commended

Saudi Arabia’s efforts to counter religious extremism and terrorism is an exemplary model for the rest of the world, a top Indian scholar said recently.
Hussain Madavoor, the general secretary of the Indian Islahi Movement, made the comments during a short visit. In his address at a gathering organized by the Saudi-Indian Islahi Center Riyadh, he said Islam stands for peace and moderation, but anti-Islamic agencies have been trying to link the religion with terrorism, supported by the colonialists and Zionists.
However, he said these terror outfits are damaging the name of Islam more than these agencies. Saudi Arabia has taken a commendable decision by declaring such groups anti-Islamic, he said.
The Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia has declared groups such as Al-Qaeda, Boko Haram and Islamic State (IS) as anti-Islamic. The imams of the two holy mosques have repeatedly warned of the dangers of such extremist groups, he said.
The Kingdom has been successful in its counterterrorism activities. Since Islam’s fundamental teachings place an important emphasis on mercy, all harmful activities to people’s lives and property are prohibited, he said.
Madavoor urged the gathering to propagate the values of compassion envisaged in the Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Nayeem Kannur, Humayoon Kabeer Farooqi and Siraj Tahyyil also spoke at the event.
