RIYADH: The family members of a 41-year-old housemaid who has reportedly committed suicide in Hail are in shock, and are puzzled over the reasons for her suicide.
A relative in Davao City, southern Philippines, told Arab News, “The employer in Hail called to tell the family that Jesselita Rosal Palca had committed suicide by hanging herself.”
Jesselita said that she could not have problems regarding her work since she was receiving her salary of SR1,500 and her employer was good.
Records show that the employer was one Naif Mohammed Al Shammary who lives with his family some 60 kilometers away from Hail City.
Asked if the family knew if there was any reason for her to commit suicide, the relative said that it could be a case of depression duty personal problems.
“She probably learned that her 35-year-old common-law husband was already living with another woman in the Philippines. They have no children,” she said.
The Filipino community in Hail said the incident had been reported to the Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Riyadh (POLO-Riyadh).
Ameera Domingo, a Filipino community leader, said that she herself visited the hospitals in the city to find out where Palca’s remains could be.
“Palca’s body is still at the morgue of one of the hospitals in Hail City,” said Domingo. She also said that she hoped the embassy and the POLO-Riyadh would act soon so that the remains could be repatriated to the Philippines.
“The family is already grieving over her death. Repatriation of the remains would ease their pain,” she said. Palca’s visa was stamped at the Saudi Embassy in Manila on Aug. 8, 2013.
