JEDDAH: The Saudi Bureau of Aviation Investigations (SBAI) has announced the results of the preliminary investigation of the private plane crash, which occurred while landing at Blackbushe Airport in England, last month, SPA reported. The crash led to the death of three members of the Bin Ladin family and the pilot.
Bureau of Aviation Investigations chief Capt. Ibrahim bin Salman Al-Kishi explained the results of the investigation, which was conducted by the British Aviation Accident Investigation Bureau (BAAIB) with the participation of authorized representative of the SBAI.
According to the initial report of the investigation, the most prominent point is the plane’s approaching speed at the beginning of the runway at 150 knots, while the aircraft manufacturer said that the appropriate speed for landing is 108 knots.
The report also pointed out that the aircraft’s inability to stop before the end of the runway led it toward the car auction site adjacent to the airport, where the plane’s collision with a number of parked cars set it alight.
Capt. Al-Kishi confirmed coordination and follow-up with the BAAIB until the issue of the final report, which will include the causes and circumstances that led to the incident issue safety recommendations aimed at preventing the recurrence of such incidents.
The SBAI appointed an accredited representative for coordination and follow-up and investigation with its British counterpart.
