RIYADH: The Special Criminal Court here recently sentenced a terrorist to nine years in jail for funding extremist groups by using an office propagating Islam.
The man, who was on the Kingdom’s list of 26 most wanted terrorists announced on Dec. 6, 2003, was also sentenced to a travel ban of nine years after he completes his jail term, a local publication reported.
The man had been hiding in his mother’s house for 11 years. He was found guilty of breaking the country’s laws, including traveling to Iran with the intention of going to fight in Afghanistan.
He was also found guilty of meeting and supporting members of extremist takfiri groups, including allowing them to use his car, and buying them a vehicle, according to the report.
The man had received training in using machine guns, and helped two people dispose of a liquid used in the manufacture of bombs. The court found him guilty of failing to surrender to the police after he was declared a wanted person.
