More funds were flowing in from enthusiastic donors last night to strengthen the Kingdom’s fund-raising campaign for Syrians.
There has been an overwhelming response from citizens and residents to the call made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah to support the Syrian people, brutalized by President Bashar Assad’s regime.
The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported yesterday that cash worth SR 246 million had been raised at the end of the fourth day of the campaign. This is in addition to donations in kind such as food, medicine, clothes, tents, blankets, property and jewelry.
Donors have been flocking in large numbers to locations in various parts of the Kingdom where the donations were being accepted.
Interior Minister Prince Ahmed is directly supervising the National Fundraising Campaign.
Donations in kind will be accepted at the governorates until Monday, organizers announced.
The campaign headquarters in the Eastern Province collected SR 6.8 million in cash on Thursday, said Suleiman Al-Matrudi, campaign committee chief in the province.
He said some donors brought large containers of medical equipment. Three Saudi nationals gave their cars and some citizens donated camels.
Religious leaders also encouraged people to bolster the campaign.
The supervising committee of the fundraising in Madinah collected more than SR 3.7 million over the past four days.
The collection figures for Thursday stood at SR 1 million.
