Riyadh police in joyride crackdown

About 500 vehicles belonging to joyriders and their spectators were impounded Friday in Riyadh by traffic police. In a wide ranging campaign against traffic violators, police swooped on various locations around the city including one at Almahdiya district. The campaign resulted in the apprehension of several individuals and the seizure of filming equipment.
Col. Hassan Al-Hassan said "This campaign came after a directive from the head of Riyadh police. The operation started early in the morning, with the involvement of secret service officials and was successful in arresting several violators."
The community reacting on social media networks praised the actions taken by the police to ensure the safety of the general public.
The joyriders often arrange meet ups in advance and perform stunts such as drifting and drag racing. The stunts are incredibly dangerous to those performing them as well as bystanders.
