JEDDAH: The Specialized Criminal Court here has sentenced a young Saudi man to five years of imprisonment on various charges, including fighting for Daesh in Syria and stealing a passport. The court has also banned the convict from traveling for six years.

Airport security authorities had arrested the young man when he arrived at King Khalid International Airport from Istanbul. The Saudi Embassy in Ankara facilitated his return.

The man was held guilty for joining Daesh, receiving training in terror camps and fighting with them, coordinating the exit of another person to join the fight in Syria and posting tweets abusive to the leadership of the country and enticing others to fight.

If the defendant fails to file an appeal against the verdict within 30 days, the case will be filed at the Appeal Court to verify the ruling.

In another case, the court issued a primary ruling against 46 Saudis accused of rioting inside the prison and resisting security men. The court sentenced them to extra term in prison ranging from four months to five years, following the end of their previous prison terms.
